Kevin works… make that ‘worked’, for Gourmet magazine, arguably one of the best of the best when it comes to culinary journalism. Gourmet was shuttered by its parent company, Conde Nast (also publishers of Architectural Digest, Vanity Fair, GQ and other popular rags) back in October.
Kevin’s a photographer. He decided the last days of the magazine that thousands of foodies called their ‘bible of food’ needed to be documented in some form, as a kind of ‘look back over the shoulder’ at what once was. So, he took pictures.
Here is his homage to the magazine.
None of the photographs are particularly creative or inspiring or thoughtful. But taken together as a linear narrative, they provide the best that photojournalism has to offer – a story.
Thanks Kevin. And while it may seem sacrilege to say it, to everyone who ever bought a copy or surreptitiously ripped a recipe from its pages while sitting in a doctor’s waiting room, Bon Appetit! (Which just happens to be another food magazine that is also published by Conde Nast. I’m just sayin’.)
