I toured the BC Pen soon after its closure as an 11 or 12 year-old… I can’t remember exactly when. We were part of a swim team that was competing at a meet in Burnaby. A father of one teammate was an employee of the federal pen system and I guess that he and the other parents thought it an appropriate way for a group of kids to spend an afternoon off.

The bars that were twisted brutishly by some super-manic strength and the wall of blood where the guards had been tortured in the last riot have been forever seared into my mind. Talk about scared straight…

Enjoyed your site, sadly the attempts to access old places are still falling on deaf ears uninterested in capturing history before its gone. luckly the UE or Urban Explorer is able to capture it all before its gone, If your interested in woodlands..

Amazing. I’ve heard a few wistful stories about how the BC Pen stood abandoned for years, but this is the first one where someone actually got inside to look around. Thanks very much for sharing this and the photos!

Well, fine. Be that way. That doesn’t solve the problem of there being nuthin’ to watch on tv nowadays, though. It’s a fucking wasteland.
