May 22nd
WiFi is spotty in the room here.
Just left a message with the AAR dudes about visiting Hangar 84 tomorrow… bwa ha ha! Took a quick look around the airport (former Walker Army Air Field).
Found a Days Inn for $40 a night… Motel 6 next door is $70! MOTEL FUCKING SIX!!! Whatever.
But, I did find about a half dozen cockroaches on the carpet and in the bathroom. Dead, mind you - EX cockroaches. Which means they fumigated the place.
And visited three — count ‘em, three — Atlas Missile Silos today. GPS was spot on! My notes were perfect.
However, none of the three were accessible - high razor fencing. Knew that. But still, interesting to see the sites, even though these sites were decommissioned forty or so years ago. Of the other 9 in New Mexico, 6 are within an hour of Roswell which I’ll do tomorrow or the day after. Of the remaining 9, three are fully accessible - can’t wait.
Need to find laundromat tomorrow too - didn’t pack enough t-shirts and silk don’t go down well in 104 degree heat.
UFO Museum just up the road a piece, and Roswell Airport (Hangar 84) about 20 minutes. Tomorrow for that too, methinks.
I’m staying here for two days, then heading north toward Route 66 and Santa Fe. May bypass Clovis and Amarillo (Cadillac Ranch) for time reasons - we’ll see.
A sheet sale at the Super 8 Motel???!!! What the fuck are they thinking?! Laughed my ass off at that one.
Just had ‘All You Can Eat Ribs’ at some, well… rib joint here in Roswell. $9.99! Yummy!
Going out for food.
Reporting tonight from near Hangar 84 in Roswell, New Mexico
